When it became apparent that he wasn't going to walk or that leg wasn't going to get better they brought him to the shelter. I used to get so mad when I thought about my poor beautiful dog being hurt and no one caring for him, but I realize they did what they did out of kindness, a lot of people would have done otherwise. We do have a good idea of who he came from. They are known profit breeders. But I don't care. He is my Chewy dog. He cannot be "fixed" he will remain 3 legged forever. We have consulted orthopedic surgeons throughout several surrounding states, and nothing can be done. He has what we call a "chicken wing" He has some movement at the shoulder. It all makes him very endearing. Chewy didn't walk right away, but when he did he got up running. I have a great video clip on the computer of him playing with his dumbbell and his "unique" stride, and he is fast! He has a very strong herding instinct, not a big barker and probably hands down one of the most wonderful dogs I have had the pleasure to share my life with! The picture you have up of Chewy is when he was about 8 months old. He is almost a year and 1/2 now and his hair is much longer, more profuse and wavy! He is so pretty. After a grooming I am in awe of what a pretty boy he is. Of course then he immediately goes and digs holes in the backyard and gets all dirty again but hey, I get a few moments!
