The Havanese is truely one of the most delightful of the small breeds. They are exceptinally intelligent and quick-witted. Obedience training is achieved with very little effort. Fast to learn and anxious to please, they are a charming, open hearted breed with nothing shy or mean in their makeup. They thrive on affection and human companionship, and are at their best as a participating member of the family.
They love children. The Havanese are powerful swimmers and love playing in the water, diving in and out like tiny seals. They are curious and busy constantly. They are good watchdogs, making sure to alert you when a visitor arrives, but will take their cue from you and welcome the guest when all seems well with the master.
They are nonshedding and oderless and their soft coat is easy to keep as long as you brush and bath them on a regular schedule. Dogs in full show coat should be brushed once a day. The coat ranges from a slight wave to curly, but many of the pet owners find that the curly coast are easier to keep neat by shortening them.
