Join in the “first annual” Crystal Cove Pirate Shoot, August 18th 2007 from 12 noon to sunset. The location will be the beautiful Crystal Cove State Beach in Laguna, California. Crystal Cove is ideal for a Pirate Shoot as it comes complete with its own caves, bluffs and natural stone “strands” that lead out to the sea.

I suggest yahoomaps or mapquest before you head out, and when you arrive look for the pirate flag on the shore!

The Information:

The official shoot will begin at one and it suggested that everyone try to arrive before 2 as the tide will come in and limit the areas one can take pictures and remain dry. There will be "official" photographers, however we would like the event to be non-formal so bring your own camera and click away. We will try to do a group photo shoot at approximately 2 pm. We will be at Crystal Cove from 12 noon until sunset.

We will post all pictures taken in due time. Each photographer is different for how to obtain hard copies of your shoot, but all images uploaded will be available for you to use free of charge.

We will try to make sure that everyone who wants their own personal shoot has a chance for one, however speak up. We can't keep track of who does what and if you get "forgotten" it is up to you to let us know.

You do not have to be dressed as a pirate. You have some other costume you want shot by the beach? Perfect. See "my suggestions" below for some basic costume guidelines. If you just want to show up and hang out that's fine too.

Sadly, we are not the richest of pirates, so we request that everyone bring a food or drink item to share. We will try to provide a few drinks and snacks; however I suggest bringing yourself a few snacks and drinks. Feel free to bring any other legal form of entertainment you desire.

The Rules:

To follow the state rules this will have to be a “dry” party as alcohol is not allowed. Also, all cutlasses and weapons of the sort will have to remain sheathed ( or not brought at all ).

No destruction or removal of any part of Crystal Cove for the shoot.

My suggestions:

Leave your finery at home!

This is a state beach people. If you cannot bear it (costume/prop/whatever) getting wet, salty and sandy, DON’T BRING IT!

We are not responsible for anything you ruin, have (god-forbid) stolen, lose, get dirty etc. I will try to sort out anything that is left behind but I'm not your momma. Keep track of your own stuff.

There is a small changing room adjoining the bathrooms close to the parking. There are no bathrooms on the beach itself. I suggest changing prior to arrival if possible.

Wear non-slippery shoes. The strands are slick and you will have to walk down a pathed but steep incline to get to the beach itself. We would really not prefer to have the party remembered as "the party where so and so compound fractured their leg".

Carpool. Although Crystal Cove is a perfect location, the state needs its funding, so parking is $10 per car.

As mentioned before, there is a short walk and a fairly steep hill to get to the beach. Whatever "booty" you bring down has to come back up.

Show up early if you can. As mentioned the tide will come in, and a lot of the better places to shoot will be more difficult to access. Also we get kicked off the beach at sunset.
